• Rootikal 2nd March – Yellowman and Dillinger with live band

Rootikal returns to The Flyover Sunday 2nd March to host two truly legendary Jamaican artists, namely Yellowman and Dillinger.

Yellowman, AKA the ‘Walking Jewellery Store’, burst onto the Jamaican music scene in the late 70s, making his mark with the debut 'Mister Yellowman' album in ’82, and then hitting internationally ‘Zungguzungguguzungguzeng’ the following year. The title track from that second album would keep him in the public consciousness for decades to come, as it was sampled by everyone from KRS-One to Tupac, and Notorious B.I.G to Mos Def. The undisputed king of the dancehall in the 80s and early 90s, we’re proud to welcome him to Rootikal.

Dillinger's career began at the start of the 70s, when he toasted on sounds like El Paso, but before long he was in the studio, firstly with Lee Scratch Perry, then Yabby U, Augustus Pablo, Channel One and Studio One, which brought him a string of hit records. He blew up internationally with the enduring ‘Cokane In My Brain’ in 1976 and his influence can not be overstated.

Both Yellowman and Dillinger will be backed by the super-tight Sagittarius band, who have also flown in from Jamaica and who they have been touring with for years. This is one show not to be missed.

Rootikal residents David Hill, Mr Faso, Stuart Patterson and Oxman will come with their usual high grade reggae selection.

Being a Sunday, the session starts at 7pm and runs until midnight.
