On Friday the 8th of May Rootikal comes back with a heavy-like-lead line up across two rooms at Corsica Studios, Elephant & Castle.
Rootikal favourite Aba Shanti I will head up the main room and will joined by Vibronics with Madu Messenger, Real Roots, Stereo Chemist, Donovan Kingjay and Rootikal’s Mr Faso at the healm.
It’s the first time that Vibronics will play at Rootikal, and for those that dont know, they’ve played all the major venues on the UK dub scene and abroad since they started in 95. They've also chalked up over 40 releases on their Scoops label, and have worked on albums, singles and remixes for a host of other artists inlcuding Universal Egg and Jah Tubbys. We can’t wait.
The Selector’s Choice room is Rootikal's new alternative to the main room and it has only one music policy – that the selector is free to dig deep and pull the pieces that they really want to drop in the dance, whether it be rocksteady and ska, a Tubbys dub or some tuff dig-roots. The sound for this room will be delivered by a state-of-the-art full-range TPI system, reknowned for its clarity and weight.
Selector's Choice will host Gladdy Wax, a true veteran of the London reagge scene and a cornerstone at Notting Hill Carnival, Gil Cang of London's standard-setting Tuff Scout label, and Rootikal residents David Hill and Stuart Patterson.
The dance runs from 10pm-5am.
We’re back, in true Rootikal style and fashion.

Conscious reggae for rootikal people
By sixty6media, Dec 3 2014 9:34AM
On Saturday the 6th of December we celebrate our sixth birthday and we come with an all killer, no filler, Rootikal line up.
Firstly, we have the return of the great Al Campbell, his first Rootikal PA show in well over three years. Anyone with even a passing interest in reggae will know the work of Al Campbell, a singer and producer of deepest roots, most soulful lovers and the toughest dancehall. His musical career started in the 60s at Studio One and he’s still cutting great sides today. We can’t wait to hear him in session again.
The mighty Channel One will also be in the house and Mikey and Ras Kayleb will be able to deliver with weight as we’ll have the Unit 137 sound system powering the dance. It’s always a joy to have Channel One selecting at Rootikal.
From the Unit 137 crew we have Ed West, fine selector, producer and drummer in The Drop, and most recent signing to the Tru Thoughts label via their new Sharp And Ready sound system music A&R. Ed is joined by RTKal on the mic, and there is also DJ set from Unit 137 head honcho, Hylu.
The Rootikal crew of David Hill, Stuart Patterson, Mr Faso will also be running tunes, with UK Principal joining them on the mic, and in room 2 we have Real Roots and Stereochemist.
The evening will begin on POW's new covered and heated winter terrace, and Rootikal will be the first Saturday night event to use this new space.
Rootikal birthday dance with Al Campbell, Channel One – Mikey Dread & Ras Kayleb, Unit 137 – Ed West, RTKal & Hylu, David Hill, Mr Faso, Stuart Patterson, UK Principal, Real Roots and Stereochemist. Powered Unit 137 Sound System.
